Different Types and Purpose of Blenders

Blenders are very useful kitchen appliances that can puree food and make it possible to prepare many different recipes like smoothies, milkshakes, sauces, salad dressings and more. Blenders are an appliance found in almost all of the average kitchens of today. If you are out looking for a blender to buy, you choice may become a difficult one since there are so many different types of blenders available in the market each with their own specific purposes. To help you make your decision, we have classified the blenders in different types and described their basic purpose briefly:

Immersion blenders:

Immersion blenders or hand blenders are hand-held blenders as evident by the name. They are quite convenient for blending, whisking, whipping, and chopping but come with lower motor powers as compared to countertop blenders so you can only use them for processing soft ingredients. They are easy to clean, require less storage space and are much cheaper as compared to other types of blenders.

Personal Blenders:

These are small countertop blenders that are easy to use, easy to clean and ideal for making personal serving of smoothies or milkshakes. As a plus, you can also drink from the same jar without having to dirty an extra cup. These personal blenders are relatively cheap as compared to larger capacity blenders.

Smoothie Blenders:

You can get a decent smoothie blender anywhere between $50 and $100. A smoothie blender comes with extra features ice crushing capabilities, greater motor power, greater speeds and sometimes multiple jugs for personal servings or that for multiple persons.

Professional Blenders:

These are the high-end blenders usually found in cafes and restaurants that come with very strong motors and much higher performance as compared to other blenders. These blenders are available in higher price ranges and come with long warranties for example the Vitamix models that offer warranties of up to 7 years

The type of blender you choose depends on your preferences, budget and the reason you are buying it in the first place. Take some time to consider all these factors before buying your blender.

Omega J8006 Nutrition Center Juicer Review

In contrast with several centrifugal juicers which juice at very high speeds, the Omega J8006 Nutrition Center Juicer is a slow juicer which juices fruits at slower RPMs. The slow juicing speed coupled with the masticating juicing technology of this model of the Omega juicers allows the prevention of increased oxidation of the juice and of damaging enzymes and nutritional content. Thus, you can expect this cold press juicer to yield juice that is not lacking in and fresh in color, taste, and nutrient content.

This juicer has two juicing stages for the most efficient extraction of juice content. The first stage involves the crushing of the fruits and vegetables in order to squeeze juice out from them. The second stage involves filtering out the juice content from the pulp by tightly squeezing and pressing on the pulp. This ensures that no juice that can be extracted is left and disposed.

The Omega J8006 is a multi-purpose machine which is capable of processing other foods as well apart from only juices. It can be used to make nut butter and baby food, and can also be utilized to grind several food items.

Tips for Efficiently Using a Food Processor

I have a small kitchen so I don’t keep a bunch of fancy appliances to fill up my kitchen but the one appliance I cannot possibly do without is a food processor. From the simplest of the tasks like slicing vegetables to complex ones like kneading pasta dough, I use it for almost everything! I love how it makes everything so simple and quick that you no longer have to think twice even if you are in the mood of a difficult recipe like homemade apple pie! So that you can also make the most out of your food processor the way I do, I have put together a couple of tips for using it efficiently.

Use the pulse button where it’s needed:

The pulse option that you have in your food processor is quite useful. Most people have been using their food processor for ages without fully understanding the purpose of this option. It gives shorts bursts of energy and can be used when you want to coarsely chop the ingredients. It also comes in handy while starting a processing cycle since it brings all the ingredients together and helps things get going. Even during the middle of the processing, if it seems that the blades are stuck due to a large piece of food, you can use the pulse option to get things moving again.

Avoid processing thinner mixtures:

Knowing the difference between the purposes of a blender and that of a food processor is important. As a general rule, leave the thinner consistencies as a job for the blender. For example, if you are making soups, thin sauces or smoothies, blender is the best tool for the job. Although a food processor will also do the job just fine, it will result in a lot of mess while doing so. Most food processors have a fill line on the inside of the bowl which is indicates the maximum amount of liquid that you can add to it.  Any liquid beyond this level will be spilled right out of the bowl onto the kitchen counter.

Cut the ingredients into smaller pieces:

Although the food processor is a strong machine and should be able to handle tough tasks, it’s better to chop the larger ingredients such as onions or carrots into a few pieces before processing them. Doing so assists the motor, prevents it from being overworked or overheated and completes the processing task faster.

Pause the machine at intervals:

It’s not at all a good idea to keep the machine running for too long. Some recipes like that for nut butters call for a long processing time. In such cases, it is important to pause the machine at intervals, let its motor cool down for a while before beginning to process again. If you process continuously for a long time, not only does it risk the motor of burning up, the excess amount of heat being produced will also degrade whatever you are processing. If you treat it well, a food processor will return the favor by serving you well for many years. A good food processor will help you with almost all of the time consuming tasks in the kitchen and is worth every penny you pay for it. If you don’t already own a food processor, there is no need to waste more time and this site is helpful for getting the best food processor as well as reading reviews of top processor brands.

Proper cleaning and storage:

Proper cleaning and storage of the food processor will ensure your family’s health and also extend the life of the machine. Remove all the detachable parts and either hand-wash them properly using mild dish soap, warm water and a non abrasive sponge or place the parts in the dishwasher if your machine is dishwasher safe. If you are washing it in a dishwasher, always place the detachable components in the top rack otherwise you risk damaging them due to the excessive heat reaching the lower racks of the dishwasher. Leave the parts to dry completely and then store them in a dry place after reattaching all the parts so that you don’t lose any.
