Abbreviated sweep?
Tacoma 9. Fresno 3 (SF + 10)
RHP Yusmeiro Petit (5.63, W) was given the spot and went five innings with it, allowing two runs to score after six hits, a walk, and three Ks. Will French be called up? Is other mischief afoot? Stay tuned! LHP Edward Paredes (7.50) gave up two hits and struck out one in the next two innings. RHP Mumba Rivera (3.38) turned in an uneventful eighth, and then RHP Scott Patterson (2.55) gave up a solo home run and struck out one in the ninth. Patterson has given up home runs in three of his last four outings.
I got word in the middle of the game that CF Gregory Halman (3B, HR, 2 R, 4 RBI, .251) was having one of his outings. Not knowing exactly what was meant by this, I was quite pleased to discover it mean two extra-base hits. 3B Matt Tuiasosopo (R, 2 RBI, .257), LF Mike Carp (.264), C Adam Moore (R, PB, .328), and 2B Dustin Ackley (2 R, .289) all had two hits as well, with Tui and Carp adding walks. 1B Matt Mangini (HR, .307) hit his twelfth home run and SS Chris Woodward (2B, R, .234) added a double.
Inland Empire 5 (LA - 2), High Desert 6 (eleven innings)
RHP Andrew Carraway (5.23) started this one out and threw seven innings with a couple of runs scoring on six hits, a walk, and five Ks. Not bad at all. RHP Stephen Penney (2.87) then had two unearned runs score against him on two hits and two Ks, and RHP Wes Littleton (3.52) gave up another after three hits and a walk against one K in an inning and a third. LHP Brian Moran
So, runs right? 2B Kyle Seager (2 2B, 2 R, 2-5, BB, .343) doubled, then Colina bunted him over to third. RF Johermyn Chavez (HR, 2 RBI, 4-5, BB, .310) was walked, obviously, then Shaffer struck out with Chavez advancing and 1B Rich Poythress (2 2B, R, RBI, E, 4-6, .298) singled to drive in Seager and end it. DH Dennis Raben (2B, R, .353) also had two hits and a walk, and LF Kuo-hui Lo (2B, 2 RBI, .269) doubled. Seager has a thirty-two game hit streak now. This doesn’t really surprise me since he’s been batting .400 for a while now.
Pulaski 9, Bluefield 1 (BAL - 13)
This seems more reasonable. RHP Timothy Boyce (3.25, W) gave up three hits and two walks in six and two-thirds innings while striking out six. RHP Steve Kohlscheen (0.00) allowed two hits in the next inning anda third and then RHP Yao Wen Chang (14.29) allowed a home run in the ninth, ending the shutout, and struck out one.
CF Mario Yepez (2 RBI, .200) had three singles in the game, bringing him to the Mendoza line. LF Jose Rivero (2 R, .333), 2B Jorge Agudelo (2B, 3B, 2 R, .294), 1B Matt Browning (2B, 2 R, RBI, CS, .250), C Larry Gonzalez (2 RBI, .267), and SS Jake Schlander (2B, R, 3 RBI, E, .304) all had two hits, with Browning drawing a walk. RF Jabari Blash (2 R, .100) had the other two walks for the team. A little unexpected, but he’s also struck out five times thus far, soo….
The AZL game appears to have been suspended. I see the weather was calling for 99 and overcast, which is different, so perhaps it rained or something.
VSL Rays 0, Aguirre Mariners 5
LHP Cruz Pereira (3.03) pitched not quite enough for the victory, going four and a third innings and allowing two hits, a wild pitch, and five walks while striking out three. RHP Isliexel Gonzalez (3.63, W) then took over and did his part to earn the win, allowing a hit and a couple of walks in four innings while striking out six. RHP Maikol Guaipe (3.21) walked one in the last two-thirds.
The big hit, which is to say the only extra-base hit, was the third home run for RF Jesus Ugueto (HR, .312). 3B-1B Yidid Batista (2 RBI, SB, .252) had two hits and 2B Felipe Burin (2 R, .344) and 1B Ivan Ramirez (R, RBI, .351) both had a hit and a walk.
DSL Cardinals 0, Yamasa Mariners 1
The Mariners pitchers allowed five hits and walked six. The Cardinals pitcher, for he threw a complete game, had four hits and a walk, but one of those hits was a home run. Yep. LHP Wander Marte (6.75) had his command get away from him, walking five and balking in three innings of work as he struck out four. RHP Junior Nunez (0.71, W) then pitched four innings, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out three. LHP Martin Abad (0.99) got one out and allowed two hits, and then RHP Yunior de Jesus (1.71, S) gave up two hits and struck out one in the final inning and two-thirds. I am so pleased that they are back to having Junior and Yunior pitch in the same games. So very pleased.
1B Rudy van Heydoorn (HR, CS, .304) had that home run as one of two hits. That was probably one that you could have guessed if you tried.
