Sacramento 4 (OAK + 13), Tacoma 6
Hey we won. RHP Andy Baldwin (5.00, W) actually had a very fine start, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk while striking out eight in six and a third innings. RHP Sean White (0.00) scored one of those and had two hits, a walk, and two Ks in an inning and two-thirds. For the ninth, RHP Levale Speigner (5.10) gave up two runs on four hits, a walk, and a K, but it didn’t really matter anyway.
SS Chris Woodward (2B, R, .237), 3B Matt Mangini (2B, 2 R, RBI, .306), and CF Gregory Halman (2B, RBI, SB, .255) all had two hits with Halman adding a walk? 1B Brad Nelson (HR, 2 RBI, .288) and RF Mike Wilson (.294) both had home runs, the tenth and fourteenth for them, respectively. DH Mike Sweeney (2B, R, RBI, .320) added a double and 2B Dustin Ackley (.289) had a single and a walk. The walk was intentional. I find this funny.
Birmingham 3 (CHW - 11), West Tenn 4
LHP Mauricio Robles (4.17) pitched five and a third innings, with a couple of runs(one earned) scoring on three hits, a walk, and five Ks. Hooray, he’s not hurt (98 pitches)! Double hooray, competent start. RHP Dan Cortes (5.86) gave up two hits and struck out three in the next inning and two-thirds and LHP Robert Rohrbaugh (3.36, W) allowed a final run to score on three hits and a strikeout in the final two innings.
So the HR/two-hit streak broke yesterday, and 1B Alex Liddi (2 HR, .277) redeems himself by going and hitting two home runs, one of which is the game-winner. From the 18th of July, Liddi has doubled his home run output for the season. Holy crap. I find this particular revelation capable of overshadowing RF Johan Limonta (HR, 2 R, .291) going 4-for-4 with his eleventh home run. But only a little.
High Desert 2, San Jose 3 (SF - 6)
Oh no. LHP Jonathan Hesketh (2.91, L) gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits (HR), three walks, and six Ks in six innings. Why, he doesn’t have a win since getting to the Cal League! RHP Cheyne Hann (6.94) gave up a solo home run along with one other hit and struck out one in the remaining two innings.
1B Rich Poythress (HR, .291) and RF Johermyn Chavez (RBI, .299) both had a hit and a walk, but Poythress had his twentieth home run! ROUND NUMBERS! DH Jake Shaffer (2B, R, .327) added a double.
Clinton 7, Lansing 12 (TOR + 4)
Nuts. Lugnuts. Ha. LHP Nick Czyz (4.34, L) left after four innings, having given up five runs on nine hits, a couple wild pitches, a walk, and a couple Ks. RHP Ryan Moorer (10.00) was quite a bit worse as he let six runs score on four hits, a hit batter, and a walk, but RHP Taylor Lewis (6.37) scored one of those and one of his own on two hits and a walk in the next inning. RHP Daniel Cooper (4.70) struck out the last two batters of the sixth, and then gave way to RHP Brandon Josselyn (2.84), who gave up a hit, and RHP Jorden Merry (4.85), who followed Joss and struck out one in the eighth.
C Blake Ochoa (2 HR, 7 RBI, .333) hit two home runs and drove in literally all of the Lumberkings’ runs , and one of those was a grand slam. Now do you see why I’m frustrated that he’s playing at this level? SS Nick Franklin (2B, .287) had a double and a walk and 3B Mario Martinez (2 R, .250) had two singles.
Salem-Keizer 0 (SF - 2), Everett 2
LHP Edlando Seco (2.97) had another one-hitter through five innings. In Seco terms, this also means three walks and six Ks. RHP Willy Kesler (2.29, W) allowed three hits and struck out five in the next three and a third innings for the win, and LHP Jason Markovitz (4.61, S) got the last two outs for the save.
C Jimmy Jacquot (HR, E, .232) had his third home run as one of two hits. Jimmy jacks! Actually now that I’ve heard that annoying broadcasters use the same term, I feel disinclined towards using it. RF Kevin Rivers (2B, .323) and SS Terry Serrano (R, E, .295) also had two hits
Pulaski 2, Bristol 6 (CHW - 6)
Didn’t see this coming. RHP Jesse Nava (5.71) gave up two runs on nine hits, a wild pitch, and a walk against five Ks in seven innings. That was all right at least. Then LHP Ryan Kiel (5.40) let four runs (three earned) score on three hits, a walk, and a K in the eighth. That was less cool.
C Larry Gonzalez (2B, R, E, .255) had a couple of hits in the game and DH Derek Poppert (2B, R, RBI, .228) doubled.
Peoria Mariners 5, AZL Royals 2
RHP Eric Valdez (6.30) let two runs score on three hits and three walks while striking out seven in five innings. Eh. RHP Jeroen de Haas (3.60, W) then allowed a hit and a walk while striking out four in three innings. That’s pretty cool. RHP Jarett Attard (4.15, S) allowed a hit in the ninth.
The difference in the game was the first career grand slam for LF-CF Guillermo Pimentel (HR, 4 RBI, .241). May we see many more? 3B-LF Michael Acevedo (2B, .367) also had a couple of hits.
VSL Cardinals 3, Aguirre Mariners 7
RHP Vicente Campos (3.67, W) had one of his good starts, going five innings and allowing two hits while striking out seven. You know what that means for next time? Catastrophe. RHP Maikol Guaipe (3.27) gave up three runs (one earned) on three hits, a plunked batter, and a walk in the next inning and a third, and then RHP Isliexel Gonzalez (3.98, S) had two hits and two Ks in the final two and two-thirds to notch his third save.
3B Felipe Burin (2B, 2 R, RBI, E, .338), 1B Ivan Ramirez (RBI, .339), and DH Miguel Brito (3B, 3 RBI, .290) all had two hits in the game, and C Franklin Diaz (2 R, E, .224) had two walks. LF Reginald Lampe (2B, RBI, .322) added a double.
DSL Brewers 4, Yamasa Mariners 0 (seven innings)
Finally, some DSL baseball! Am I right? RHP Ambioris Hidalgo (4.19, L) gave up three runs on five hits, a wild pitch, a hit batter, and two walks against six Ks. Actually that was kind of weak for a three-inning stint. RHP Domingo Brazoban (5.02) let another run score on two hits and two Ks in the last four innings.
PH-DH Westlonder Marcelino (.278) walked in his only plate appearance.
Yamasa Mariners 7, DSL Brewers 6 (seven innings)
RHP Jochi Ogando (3.49) gave up a couple of unearned runs on a hit, a wild pitch, a hit batter, and three walks against three Ks in three innings. That wasn’t good. Nor was LHP Leoncio Munoz (3.80), as he let four plate on four hits and a walk in the fourth. Things calmed down from there and LHP Martin Abad (1.00, W) had a hit and a couple Ks through the next two frames and RHP Yunior de Jesus (1.82, S) had a hit, a wild pitch, and a K in the seventh.
C Ivan Brea (2B, R, 3 RBI, CS, .215) had two hits in the game, and was caught stealing home, 2B George Soto (.197) had a couple of walks, and LF Estarlyn Morales (2B, 2 R, RBI, .182) and SS Luis Matias (SB, E, .237) both had a hit and a walk.

I can't believe it .448/.467/1.069 in the last 7 games, right since Ackley left for Tacoma. What's happened for having such a performance ? Perhaps he does not feel anymore the pressure to play 3B.
