Tacoma 10, Las Vegas 5 (TOR - 4)
LHP Ryan Feierabend (5.25, PO, W) picked up his third win. That’s about as exciting as the start was, as he allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits (HR), a walk, and three Ks in six and a third innings. LHP Edward Paredes (22.50) let a run score on two hits and a K in the next inning. It seems like he’s taking a bit of time to adjust to the league. RHP Sean White (0.00) walked one in the final inning and two-thirds. White has a 4/6 K/BB in eight minor league innings thus far. Eep.
SS Chris Woodward (2B, 2 R, RBI, .233) had three hits leading off. Most of the other contributors had two, those being DH Mike Sweeney (2 R, 2 RBI, .413), 1B Brad Nelson (2 2B, R, 2 RBI, .289), LF Mike Carp (HR, 3 RBI, .258), 2B Dustin Ackley (R, .250), CF Gregory Halman (2B, R, .252), and RF David Winfree (2B, RBI, .320). Sweeney, Halman, and Winfree all drew walks too. Carp has six home runs this month which is a season high.
High Desert 7, Modesto 4 (COL + 1)
RHP Andrew Carraway (5.42, W) picked up another win, this time going six innings and allowing two runs to score on seven hits (HR) while striking out four. Another solid outing for him. LHP Brian Moran (2.70) allowed a hit and struck out three over the next two innings, but RHP Stephen Penney (2.91) gave up two runs on three hits, a hit batter, and two Ks in the ninth.
LF Jake Shaffer (2B, 3B, HR, 3 RBI, .329) was a single shy of cycling, which is cool. 2B Kyle Seager (R, .340) and 3B Eddy Martinez-Esteve (2B, RBI, .366) both had two hits, and DH Dennis Raben (HR, .363) and 1B Rich Poythress (HR, 2 RBI, .289) both had home runs. Poythress’ home run was against a left-handed pitcher and Raben’s was against a right-hander. Buzzkill!
Clinton 1, Great Lakes 3 (LA + 15)
RHP Nolan Gallagher (3.63, L) had a good start, just not good enough, as he gave up three runs on five hits (HR), a walk, and eight Ks through seven innings. That home run accounted for the difference in the game. RHP Jorden Merry (5.25) walked one and struck out one in the eighth.
1B Vinnie Catricala (2B, .279) had a double and two walks. That’s good. SS Nick Franklin (HR, .291) had one of his two hits leave the park. You can make an argument that this is better, especially considering that it came against the starter, who has only allowed three all season.
Everett 6, Salem-Keizer 11 (SF - 1)
LHP Anthony Fernandez (3.55, PO, L) gave up five runs (four earned) on seven hits, three walks, and three Ks in four and a third innings. Probably his worst outing in recent memory. LHP Jason Markovitz (4.85) gave up two runs on five hits and five Ks in the next two and a third innings and RHP Austin Hudson (2.95) gave up four unearned runs on two hits, two walks, and two Ks going the rest of the way. It was really just piling on at that point.
3B Terry Serrano (2B, 2 R, CS, .265) had three hits in the game, CF Robbie Anston (2B, RBI, SB, .279), 2B Hawkins Gebbers (2B, 3B, 2 R, RBI, SB, 2 E, .244) and 1B Evan Sharpley (3B, 2 RBI, PO, .257) all had two hits, with Gebbers and Sharpley adding walks, LF Kevin Rivers (2 R, .324) walked twice, and SS Anthony Phillips (SB, .224) and C Jimmy Jacquot (RBI, .215) both had a hit and a walk. Everyone in the lineup reached safely, so that’s something.
Pulaski 1, Danville 8 (ATL + 1)
Reversal! RHP Yovanny Olivero (6.82, PO, L) gave up three runs on ten hits, a wild pitch, a hit batter, and one lonesome K through five innings. The opposing pitcher had ten of something too: strikeouts, in seven innings. RHP Yao Wen Chang (14.81) gave up five runs on eight hits, a wild pitch, and a hit batter in the last three frames.
It’s reach offense night, as you might have expected, so DH Ethan Paquette (SB, .247) had a single and a stolen base. There were four other hits. No one walked.
AZL Royals 7, Peoria Mariners 1
LHP Nate Reed (4.33, L) ended up with his fourth loss, except this one might have actually been earned as he gave up four runs on eight hits (HR), a wild pitch, and two Ks through five innings. RHP Jandy Sena (4.30) pitched about the same, with three runs scoring on seven hits, a wild pitch, a hit batter, and a walk against four Ks in the same number of innings.
RF Guillermo Pimentel (HR, .256) didn’t need much time to get his second home run, which is certainly a good sign. CF Alfredo Morales (3B, A, .235) added hit second triple, SS Carlos Ramirez (2B, .271) and C Ji-man Choi (2B, .432) both had doubles, with Choi adding a walk as he is wont to do, and LF Michael Acevedo (.333) had two singles. He’s not slugging yet, but Acevedo seems to have gotten the hang of this whole playing baseball in the States thing.
The DSL Mariners were rained out again. This may mean a horrible string of doubleheaders down the road. Or it may mean nothing at all.
